Around-Oz: Living the Dream!

Letterboxes With A View!

Moira Drive - Kiala West just south of Shepparton in North Western Victoria

Only a simple letterbox but what a lovely outlook.

On the coast road between Cygnet and Woodstock south west of Hobart - Tasmania.

This is pretty magic! The ferry runs back up to Hobart.

Wow! This really is a great letterbox! On the very scenic road into Gravelly Beach from Exeter in Tasmania just north of Launceston.

This actually lights up at night - we camped just down the road at Anzac Park and saw it on our nightly walk! Very clever stuff and te view of course is the beautiful Tamar River running into Launceston. The people in this area are woinderfully friendly.

Wow! On the very most northern tip of Bruny Island off Tasmania

This is one clever letterbox though using natures own materials plus a little bit of recycled corrugated iron. This one is right opposite Kellys Lookout and parking is VERY difficult!

On the coast road between Cygnet and Woodstock south west of Hobart - Tasmania.

Obviously Carlton supporters!

Near Cradoc looking towards Franklin in Tasmania a little bit south of Hobart.

This is country living ast its very best.

On the coast road between Cygnet and Woodstock south west of Hobart - Tasmania.

This is a pretty magic view! All the letterboxes in this area are on the opposite side of the road to the house.

About a kilometre back from the jetty at Dennes Point on North Bruny Island.

This spot truly is paradise and very peaceful.

About a kilometre back from the jetty at Dennes Point on North Bruny Island.

Only 12 locals live in this beautiful area most of the time. Not even a local shop for 40 kms!

On the very scenic road from Somerset to Henrietta in Northern Tasmania

This one must have been made by a retired engineer - it's just so strong!

On the road to Queenstown at Tullah in Tasmania

This is a basic box but gosh what a fantastic view of the most western part of Cradle Mountain National Park!

Wow! This really is a great idea! In Tamar Avenue in historic George Town in the north of Tasmania.

The lovely island scene is actually painted on the garage door. Sadly our photo just doesn't do it justice - particularly the dirty big shadow of a telegraph pole right down the middle. If we visit again we certainly will have another go at this one! So it truly is a letterbox with a view.

On the coast road between Cygnet and Woodstock south west of Hobart.

This has to be one of the most scenic drives in Tassie. The road turns to dirt just after these guys and it just gets better and better.

At Tinderbox just south of Hobart and Kingston in Tasmania

Views like this one just go on and on for miles. The opposite shore is just down from the norther tip of North Bruny Island in Tasmania.

Huon River on the road from Lymington to Petchey's Bay.

This is on a delightful dirt road and the photo just doesn't do it justice!

On the Huon River - Petchys Bay to Wattle Grove just south of Hobart in Tasmania

This is a wonderful area for letterbox spotting! It took us over two hours to cover just 12 kms!

North Bruy Island - on the main dirt road joing the north and south islands.

This has to be one of the most peaceful areas on earth! Just about all dirt roads.

Anbout halfway down North Bruny Island on Barnes Bay in Tasmania

This is a delightful road even though a bit hilly in parts.

Between Gordon and Garden Island Creek looking towards South Bruy Island in Tasmania

Another wonderfully scenic full of letterboxes dirt road!

Near the ferry on North Bruny Island looking towards Tinderbox

This road leads to a tiny group of holiday houses secluded in their own little bay. About 2 kms in.

South of Cygnet looking towards Dover in Tasmania.

This is very lovely country.

Between Middleton and Gordon looking towards South Bruny Island in Tasmania

One of the best old drum boxes we have come across - immaculate house tooooo!

Between Middleton and Gordon looking towards North Bruny Island in Tasmania

We liked the flag idea - just like the USA but now taking on in Oz.

Just down from Snug looking out towards North Bruny Island in Tasmania.

Another lovely dirt road with magnificent scenery.

On the road to Egg and Bacon Bay in Tasmania

One of the best milk churns we have come across.

On the road to Egg and Bacon Bay in Tasmania

This has to be one of our favourites!

At present this one is the best letterbox we have found in New South Wales! We were beginning to despair at finding anything really out of the ordinary. We have photographed all angles to make it easy for anyone wanting to make one! Yes this little guy is made out of an inverted old drum! The owners dog took a fancy to us and ended up having morning tea of "Smackos" with us! You could possibly get away with giving one to your young son for Xmas as he has such a space age feel. How about those eyes! A really fantastic effort. More photos of this letterbox on this page
