Around-Oz: Living the Dream!

Blues Gums Caravan Park - Lake Eildon - Right on the River

Scenically extremely beautiful, and a wonderful setting for a caravan park. Tons of room and you get to park where you like. Warm friendly welcome on arrival. All sites are on grass and under very tall gum trees. Lots of well kept lawn and an abundance of flowers. Most powered sites have sullage and a tap with river water - best to boil before drinking. Tent sites only by the river - very sensible.

Quite a few annual vans here and some will really amuse you as they no longer even remotely resemble a caravan! Spotlessly clean amenities with some lovely touches - such as the flowers! The laundry costs a very resonable $2.40 a load. Hot water to one sink only. Ironing board and iron in the laundry - free. Lots of good Aussie humour in this park in some of the street names - Milky Way, Lucas Avenue etc.

The river is stunningly beautiful. Our photos were all taken late afternoon, but you should get the idea on just how scenic it is. TV is marginal - we got little colour using a Winegard but a neighbour with an Explorer got good colour. No digital yet. GSM was zero most of the time, but walking towards the western boundary did improve things to 1 bar, CDMA had two bars, but our Internet Aircard wouldn't work at all.

No walks other than in the park itself as there is private property on both sides. Very poor bike riding without venturing out onto the main road. Quiet at night with zero traffic noise. We had lots of troubles with the electronic boom gate - it wouldn't let us out for an early morning departure. It could be an idea to watch this, as had we moved forward it would have fallen on the roof!

The park is a fair way out of town at 4 kms - way beyond walking or even bike riding distance as it is not all flat. However, the office doubles as a mini-mart and stocks a bit above the basics so you could easily last a few days without moving. A powered site in April 2005 cost a very reasonable $19.00. We will most certainly be back - we loved the bush atmosphere.

Absolutely recommended
