Around-Oz: Living the Dream!

Louth Bay - Eyre Peninsula - South Australia
- Low Cost Camping -

Wonderful foreshore bush campsite that is ideal for an overnight stop, as it is only just off the highway yet also great for a restful few days. Although the camp is right on the foreshore it is protected by a low sand dune so that you can't actually get sea views from your motorhome, only little glimpses. However this does give better wind protection as it can really blow hard down here! Very safe swimming and a fishing paradise - you can even drive a normal car on the beach! Wonderful walking beach as it is nice and hard at all tides. There is a great jetty just up the road a bit and visible from the camp. You tend to get more caravanners than motorhomers here as it is listed in the Boiling Billy SA guide.

Like most of the coastal villages on the Eyre Peninsula the camp has running water. The tap for filling tanks is VERY hard to find as it is right at ground level. It is about 2 metres from the road on the right hand side of the launching ramp. There is another tap inside the toilet near the basin.

The camp is laid out national park style with each bay surrounded by a low fence. Fees are collected in an honesty box located in front of the toilet blocks - $5.00 per night per campsite. The amenities are very good considering the price and very clean - a real credit to the local community. Running water and flushing toilets and all well lit at night. The generator rule probably applies because the camp is adjacent to local housing. Most sites are grassy - October 2003.

This is not the most picturesque camp along the coast but it is very clean and quiet and really a top overnight spot. Oh yes it is doggy friendly too! We certainly recommend it.
